Introduction:

Lu (2008) claims that the Chinese language (that is, Mandarin Chinese or Putonghua) faces four main obstacles in becoming a worthy competitor of the English language as a global language, including the difficulty of acquiring and using Chinese, the narrow acceptance of Chinese culture, the lack of Chinese publications globally and the hugeness of the English-learning Chinese population, all based on the assumption that China’s growth will have an negligible effect on her premises.
