Health and Fitness: Coconut & Coco Water

Now, what is this all about?

Basically, I was trying to look for a video clip on Youtube on how to open a young coconut today (29th December 2009) and I came across a few interesting and rather useful videos for both knowledge and listening practice.

First, this is a little more on how to open a coconut in a quick and easy way.

After watching it, it leaves me wondering how I can open one if I don't have a sharp knife. The next video is how a guy got his idea of founding his million dollar business through an odd opportunity.

Interesting Facts about Coconut:
  1. The tree of coconuts is called Coconut Palm.
  2. The husk covers the shell and in turns covers the meat and water.
  3. The coconut palm thrives on sandy soils and is highly tolerant of salinity (saltiness).
  4. Coconut palms require warm conditions for successful growth, and are intolerant of cold weather.
  5. The Philippines, Indonesia and India are the top 3 coconut producers on the world.
  6. Young coconuts used for coconut water are called tender coconuts.
  7. Depending on its size a tender contains 300 to 1,000 ml of coconut water.
  8. Coconut meat contains less sugar and more protein than popular fruits such as bananas, apples and oranges, and it is relatively high in minerals such as iron, phosphorus and zinc.
